Alimony increase

Enter the alimony set by the court, the date the increases start and the index named in the judgment; the tool calculates the amount for each year and today, using monthly PPI and CPI data since 2005, with either the annual change or the 12-month average.

If the judgment says “every year from the date it becomes final”, enter that date; if it says “from the filing date”, enter the filing date. The first increase is one year later, then on each anniversary.

Index named in the judgment
Type of rate

Judgments saying “by the annual PPI/CPI rate” are usually applied with the change against the same month of the previous year. If the judgment says “12-month average”, choose that.

Does alimony increase every year in Türkiye?

When awarding alimony, Turkish courts usually order that it be “increased every year by the PPI (or CPI) rate published by TÜİK (the Turkish Statistical Institute)”. Under the settled case law of the Court of Cassation 2nd Civil Chamber, if a party asks for it, the increase is by the PPI. Where the judgment contains such a clause, no new lawsuit is needed: the increased amount can be enforced directly through the enforcement office.

When and at what rate the increase applies depends on the wording of the judgment; it cannot be reinterpreted at the enforcement stage. The tool applies, on each anniversary, TÜİK’s figure for the month before that date. If your judgment provides for a different period (e.g. every January, using the previous December’s rate), enter the start date accordingly.

If the judgment has no increase clause, or the parties’ financial situation has changed significantly, anadjustment lawsuit can be brought under TMK art. 176(4) to increase or reduce the alimony. The court then considers not only inflation but also the parties’ income and the child’s needs.
