Enter the date of service or of learning of the decision; the tool calculates the last day of the time limit, taking weekends, public holidays, religious holidays and the judicial recess into account.

Choose the time limit and the date, then press “Calculate the last day”.

How are time limits calculated?

For time limits set in days, the day of service is not counted; the period starts the next day (Code of Civil Procedure (HMK) art. 92(1), Code of Criminal Procedure (CMK) art. 39(1)). Time limits set in weeks, months or years end on the day of the last week, month or year that corresponds to the day on which they started. For example, a two-week time limit served on a Monday ends on the Monday two weeks later. If the final month has no corresponding day (such as 31 January + 1 month), the time limit ends on the last day of that month.

Holidays are included in time limits. However, if the last day falls on a Saturday, Sunday or public holiday, the time limit ends on the next working day (HMK art. 93, CMK art. 39(4), Enforcement and Bankruptcy Law (İİK) art. 19, Administrative Procedure Law (İYUK) art. 8(2)). On half-day holidays, such as the eve of a religious holiday and 28 October, the safe course is to take the step before noon.

The judicial recess (adli tatil) begins on 20 July and ends on 31 August every year. Where a time limit expires during the recess, it is extended to 7 September in civil cases (HMK art. 104) and to 3 September in criminal matters (CMK art. 331(4)); in the administrative courts, seven days are likewise added from the end of the recess (İYUK art. 8(3)). There is no extension for matters heard during the recess, such as alimony, employee claims, interim injunctions and non-contentious proceedings (HMK art. 103). Nor is there any recess extension for steps in enforcement proceedings.

For details, see the judicial recess page. Steps can also be taken electronically through UYAP, Türkiye’s National Judiciary Informatics System.
