How is it calculated?
Conditional release (koşullu salıverilme) becomes possible once the portion of the sentence specified by law has been served in prison with good conduct (Law on the Execution of Sentences and Security Measures (CGTİK) art. 107). For fixed-term prison sentences, the rule is one half. For offences such as intentional killing, torture, sexual assault and offences against private life, and for organised crime, the proportion is two thirds; for aggravated sexual assault, sexual abuse of children and drug trafficking it is three quarters(art. 108(9)). For life imprisonment the basis is 24 years, and for aggravated life imprisonment 30 years; these periods are longer for organised crime and for repeat offenders.
Supervised release (denetimli serbestlik, art. 105/A): a prisoner of good conduct who is in an open prison and has one year or less left until conditional release may, on application, serve the rest of the sentence outside prison under a supervised release measure. For most offences committed up to 30 March 2020, this period is three years (provisional art. 6). For offences committed on or before 31 July 2023, except for excluded offences, supervised release is available three years earlier (provisional art. 10(6)).
The final release date is the date on which the whole sentence ends. A prisoner released conditionally remains subject to a supervision period until that date (art. 107(6)).
This tool is for persons who were 18 or over at the time of the offence and for a single conviction. Terrorist offences, offences against state security, the constitutional order and national defence, and cases where several sentences are aggregated are outside its scope.
Note: The results are approximate and not binding. The exact dates are set out in the sentence calculation document (müddetname) prepared by the chief public prosecutor’s office. Good conduct, disciplinary penalties, transfer to an open prison, escape and time spent in hospital can change the result. The provisions were last checked against the current text of the CGTİK on 1 October 2026.
